Little Old Ladies

Little Old Ladies
When I was little, my grandmother would make fritters out of zucchini blossoms. She called them "little old ladies." She’d make a batter out of flour, water and salt, dip the cleaned flowers in the batter and fry them in olive oil. They were so damn good! But really anything in a batter fried in oil is good! I like to make them for The RedHead and when I eat one it reminds me of my grandmother. The other day I had some zucchini that were gonna die if I didn't use them so I thought why not fry 'em up the same way my grandmother did. So I shredded the zucchini and tossed them into a bowl with equal parts corn starch and flour and some of salt. I only added a little bit of water since the zucchini release a lot of liquid.

I let them sit for a bit and after around 10 minutes they looked like they were floating in batter.

I had some really thick olive oil that I thinned down with some veggie oil and started frying 'em up.

It took about 5 minutes per side to cook. Then I placed them on paper towels to drain, threw some extra salt on them and placed them in the oven to keep them warm.

Boy were they yummy!  And the best part was that they had almost the exact flavor of the little old ladies. I love anything that turns my mouth into a raging hot fire so I added some Sriracha to ketchup and used that to dip them in. Fan-Fucking-Tastic!

  1. I'm so glad that Pat got you on a blog! Your sensibility, aesthetic/philosophic/gastronomic, is too good not to be shared....
